Set off on an unforgettable adventure from a private helipad! Board a helicopter with one of TEMSCO’s skilled pilots and your expert naturalist guide — a seasoned Denali veteran with over 30 years guiding in the area.  Soar over dramatic mountainous terrain and rugged Alaskan backcountry, scanning for wildlife like caribou, moose, grizzly bears, and majestic Dall sheep.

 

Your guide will then select a custom landing zone tailored to your group’s interests and hiking ability, placing you deep in remote wilderness just outside Denali National Park. Once on the ground, you’ll embark on a memorable 3-hour hike through stunning alpine tundra. With your naturalist guide leading the way, you’ll explore wild landscapes, discover fascinating geology and botany, and gain a true understanding of the untamed Alaska that draws people to Denali.

Explore Alaska’s layered wildlands on a guided 3-hour hike that reveals the deep connections between plants, animals, and people across boreal forest, taiga, tundra, and permafrost landscapes.

 

Your experienced naturalist guide will customize the route based on the group’s pace, the day’s weather, and everyone’s interests — stopping frequently to share fascinating stories of adaptation, ecology, and the rich natural and human history of Denali.

 

This engaging, educational wilderness experience usually covers 2–3 miles on improved and front-country trails, with portions inside Denali National Park and on nearby state and public lands. It’s the perfect way to experience Denali’s beauty.

This active, strenuous tour is designed for fit hikers who want a deeper, more immersive experience in Denali’s mountain landscapes. Expect significant uphill climbing, unimproved trails, and off-trail hiking as we explore sub-alpine and alpine tundra as well as dramatic glacial terrain.

 

While still fully narrated and interpretive, this hike covers more ground (5-7 miles) and elevation (1500'-2000')  than our moderate walking tours. The extra time on the trail allows us to visit three distinct zones: the boreal forest along the Nenana River, the brushy and wildlife-rich sub-alpine tundra, and the stunning, windswept alpine tundra with its highly adapted vegetation and sweeping views.

Note: We often operate just outside Denali National Park on private and remote lands, allowing access to a wider variety of terrain.

This tour is designed to be the same intensity as our 5-Hour Wilderness Hiking Tour and for more fit travelers. While still a narrated tour the Interpretive 4 hour Hike covers more ground but a little shorter in duration. Expect to cover 4-6 miles and climb up 1500-1800' in elevation.

*Note, this tour often operates in areas just outside the National Park so we may explore the mountains off-trail and utilize locations that are more remote and have a wider variety of terrain to explore.  We can drop you off at the train depot in time for the 12:30pm train departure.
